OPC Application Development
CIM Software Corporation can develop custom solutions quickly and at low costs including OPC Web Services. Our project cycles are shorter, the costs are lower, and our qualitative benefits are real and tangible. CIM Software Corporation are experts in implementing the OPC interface and the products that use it like GE FANUC, ICONICS, Wonderware, Rockwell, and Citec.

The need for OPC
A common analogy for OPC Data Access is printer drivers in DOS verses Windows. In DOS, the application developer had to write a printer driver for every printer. So AutoCAD, WordPerfect, and Netscape all had to write a separate printer driver for every printer they wanted to support.
In industrial automation, GE FANUC, Rockwell, ICONICS, Citec and Wonderware wrote their own Human Machine Interface (HMI) software and a proprietary driver for each industrial device including every PLC brand in order to retrieve process data.
OPC Standardization
Just like Microsoft solved the printer driver problem by incorporating the printer support infrastructure into the operating system, Microsoft also added the OPC specification to Microsoft's OLE technology in Windows which allowed standardization. Now the industrial device manufacturers could write the OPC DA Servers and the software (like HMIs) could become OPC Clients. Because the OPC standards are based in turn upon computer industry standards, technical reliability is assured.
OPC UA - Unified Architecture
Under development by OPC Members since 2003. OPC UA adds Web services, WSDL and XML and adds a service-oriented architecture to the plant floor. With OPC-UA, all of the functionality provided today in OPC is combined into a single set of base services used to transport all data. Other specifications are OPC Data Access, OPC Alarms & Events, OPC Batch, OPC Data eXchange, OPC Historical Data Access, OPC Security, OPC XML-DA, OPC Complex Data, and OPC Commands.
